Regenerative agriculture: Growing food, sustaining life

Agriculture is the backbone of Uganda’s economy, providing livelihoods for millions of people. However, unsustainable farming practices, soil degradation, and climate change threaten food production and long-term food security. At OGGEV, we believe in regenerative agriculture—a holistic farming approach that not only boosts yields but also restores soil health, enhances biodiversity, and strengthens communities.

Our regenerative agriculture program empowers farmers with the tools, knowledge, and resources to produce nutritious food while safeguarding the environment for future generations.

Why regenerative agriculture?

Regenerative agriculture goes beyond conventional farming by focusing on soil regeneration, water conservation, and biodiversity restoration. It improves food production while reversing land degradation, increasing resilience to climate change, and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

How your support makes an impact

Equipping farmers with knowledge & tools
We provide hands-on training and essential resources to help farmers transition from traditional, soil-depleting methods to regenerative practices, including:

  • Agroecology techniques such as crop rotation, intercropping, and permaculture
  • Composting and organic fertilization to restore soil nutrients
  • Water harvesting and irrigation strategies to improve efficiency in dry seasons
By empowering farmers with these skills, we ensure long-term agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.

Supporting vegetable farming initiatives
We encourage the cultivation of nutrient-rich vegetables, helping households achieve food security while generating income. Our program provides:

  • High-quality seeds and organic fertilizers to improve yields
  • Training in greenhouse farming and permaculture gardens for year-round production
  • Market access support to help farmers sell surplus produce and improve their earnings

Through regenerative vegetable farming, families gain access to affordable, nutritious food while improving their economic well-being.

Expanding our model farms
OGGEV operates model farms as demonstration sites where farmers, students, and agricultural stakeholders can learn best practices in sustainable agriculture. These farms showcase:

  • Zero-waste farming techniques that enhance productivity
  • Integrated farming systems, including livestock-crop integration
  • Soil restoration methods to reverse land degradation

Expanding these farms allows us to train more farmers, test innovative agricultural techniques, and inspire widespread adoption of regenerative practices across Uganda.

The bigger picture: A sustainable food system

Regenerative agriculture is not just about farming—it’s about building a resilient food system. By restoring degraded land, improving soil fertility, and reducing dependence on chemical inputs, we create a future where farming is productive, climate-smart, and profitable for smallholder farmers.
